The questions that matter aren't price: is the operator's kit annually tested (PIPA/RPII tag with a number you can check), do they carry public liability insurance (GBP 5m+: ask for the certificate, real operators expect it), and does THEIR insurance cover use, or only their delivery? Most garden hires: supervision is YOURS: the adult-in-charge rule (sober, watching, one age group at a time) is the entire safety system. Wind is the cancellation criterion: castles must come down above ~24mph gusts: a good operator refunds weather cancellations: check before paying the deposit.
What The Bouncy Castle Hire Calculator Works Out
- Hire cost: the castle's day rate plus any extras. Toddler units run about GBP 60, the medium themed workhorse GBP 85, slide combos GBP 130 and adult-rated kit GBP 200; generators, overnight keeps and safety mats are the extras line.
- Per child: the hire cost divided by the children attending, usually GBP 4-8 a head for a whole afternoon, which undercuts every venue party.
- The booking checklist: the annual PIPA or RPII test tag with a checkable number, a GBP 5m public liability certificate, who supervises (you, almost always), the footprint plus 2m clearance and blower access, grass versus hard-standing, and the weather-refund policy in writing. Castles come down above roughly 24mph gusts.
- Hire vs buying one: domestic castles at GBP 150-400 look like two or three hires' money but are rated for two to four small children, not a party, and it is the same castle every anniversary.
- Your actual quote (advanced): type the operator's day rate and it replaces the dropdown estimate.
- Extra days and rate (advanced): overnight or second-day keeps are usually charged at 30-50% of the day rate, doubling the fun for a fraction of the price; the total and child-hours update.
- Delivery charge (advanced): often free within a few miles and GBP 10-30 beyond; added to the total.
- Hours of bouncing and per child-hour (advanced): the total cost divided by children x hours, the entertainment-per-hour figure the birthday pages use.
- Venue party alternative (advanced): enter a soft-play or trampoline-park price per child (typically GBP 12-20) to see what the same guest list costs there and what the castle saves.
- Buying breaks even at (advanced): the domestic castle price divided by your all-in hire cost, in hires, with the reminder of what a domestic unit is actually rated for.
- Blower electricity (advanced): a 1kW blower runs the whole time the castle is inflated, so enter the kWh (about one per hour) to see the cost on your meter at the current Ofgem price cap unit rate.
