"two sessions" is often 2 x 8 min: outdoor half-hours ~30: endurance 120-180 shared
weekday evenings and daytimes: 20-30%
venue leagues: 40-60 a round
Track time per pound is the only comparison that matters: a GBP 30 "two sessions" night is often 2 x 8 minutes = 16 minutes of driving: a GBP 60 outdoor half-hour is nearly double the seat time per pound with faster karts: read the MINUTES in the package, not the session count. Weight matters more than talent at arrive-and-drive level: lighter drivers are simply faster in identical karts: race nights with mates are decided at the buffet years earlier: take the podium ceremony accordingly.
What The Go-Karting Calculator Works Out
- Cost: the per-driver price for the format multiplied by the number of drivers, then by the visits per year. Indoor arrive-and-drive runs about GBP 30, race nights GBP 45, outdoor half-hours GBP 60 and endurance relays GBP 90 a head.
- Value moves: compare minutes of track time per pound rather than session counts, book off-peak for 20% to 30% off, and use endurance relays for big groups where GBP 90 buys two to three hours of shared racing.
- If the bug bites: venue leagues at GBP 40 to GBP 60 a round in identical karts are the cheap competitive fix. Owner-karting starts around GBP 1,500 for a used kart and kit plus licence, club and GBP 60 to GBP 100 track days, so a GBP 500 a year habit becomes GBP 3,000 or more.
- Quoted price per driver (advanced): overrides the preset with the exact figure from the venue's booking page, including any group package rate.
- Minutes of track time (advanced): the number buried in the package description. A GBP 30 "two sessions" night is often 2 x 8 minutes, an outdoor booking 30 or more, and endurance events 2 to 3 hours shared between a team. It drives the cost-per-minute card, the only fair way to compare venues.
- Off-peak discount (advanced): weekday evenings and daytimes typically run 20% to 30% under weekend prices. The saving card shows the cash difference per visit and per year.
- Food, drinks and travel (advanced): the buffet, the bar and the fuel to an out-of-town circuit, added to the visit cost and shared across drivers in the per-driver figure.
- Annual spend (advanced): the full visit cost multiplied by visits per year, with the per-driver share, for comparing with the league alternative.
- League season (advanced): league round price multiplied by the rounds you would race in a year, shown against your current per-driver annual spend. Most people who try a league season find it is the sweet spot between race nights and owning a kart.
