UK average hovers GBP 1-2
Advanced options
The 20 baby teeth fall roughly ages 6-12: front teeth first (ages 6-8, when belief and excitement peak), molars last. Rate-setting doctrine: the first tooth traditionally pays a premium, playground rate-comparison is fierce (agree a cartel rate with the class parents if you can), and whatever you set, you're setting for 20 teeth x N children: the GBP 5 first tooth is a GBP 200 family precedent. Keep pound coins in a known drawer: the fairy's classic failure is having no change at 11pm.
What The Tooth Fairy Calculator Works Out
- Per child: the going rate x 20 baby teeth. Every child tenders exactly 20, on a schedule dentistry publishes: front incisors at 6-8, molars trailing to 11-12. At the UK's GBP 1-2 a tooth that is GBP 20-40 a child.
- Total family liability: the per-child figure x children, paid out in small instalments over roughly six years each. A flourishing GBP 5 first tooth sets a GBP 100-a-child precedent the playground's rate-comparison machinery makes nearly impossible to walk back.
- Operational guidance: the windowsill glass, the tooth tin and the innocently titled phone reminder, because the forgotten visit is the fairy's classic failure.
- First tooth premium and final tooth bonus (advanced): a bigger coin for tooth one is traditional, and a slightly better coin on the last molar is tradition's maturity bonus. Both are added once per child.
- Teeth per child and years (advanced): override the 20 teeth and the six-year span if your dentist or your child has other plans; the per-year card spreads the total across the span.
- Rate rise per year (advanced): the fairy's gentle inflation, which tracks the pocket-money index rather than CPI. Each year's teeth are paid at that year's rate and the final-tooth card shows where the rate ends up.
- Teeth lost before the fairy sees them (advanced): swallowed, playground-lost or dropped-down-the-sink teeth. Universal convention pays them at full rate on a note to the fairy, so leave this at zero unless your household rules differently.
- Per child with premiums and family total with rises (advanced): the full contract value once premiums, bonus and rate rises are included, and how much more than the simple sum that is.
- Coins to keep in the drawer (advanced): the float for a single visit in pound coins, since a cashless household no longer naturally holds change at 11pm.
- Year-by-year table (advanced): the rate, teeth paid, per-child cost and family cost for each year of fairy service.
