What The Dutching Calculator Works Out
- Return if any selection wins: dutching backs several runners in the same event with stakes sized so the return is identical whichever one wins. Each stake is the total divided by the sum of the implied probabilities, then divided by that runner's odds, so shorter prices take more of the pot. GBP 100 across 3.0 and 4.0 puts about GBP 57 on the first and GBP 43 on the second, returning about GBP 171 either way.
- Profit: the equalised return minus the total staked, also shown as a percentage of the stake. It is only a profit when none of the uncovered runners wins.
- Combined book: the sum of the implied probabilities (1 divided by each decimal odds) of your selections. Below 100% a win by any of them locks in the profit shown; above 100% you have guaranteed a loss whichever of them wins. Covering more of the field always pushes the book higher.
- Work out stakes for (advanced): instead of spreading a fixed stake, size the bets to produce a target profit or a target return. The total stake needed is shown in its own card; a target profit is impossible when the book is at or above 100%.
- Exchange commission (advanced): exchanges take 2% to 5% of net winnings. The calculator sizes stakes against the net odds so the returns stay equal after commission, and shows the most commission that would be charged.
- Round each stake to (advanced): real bets are placed in round amounts. Rounding to 50p or GBP 1 makes the returns slightly uneven, so the range card shows the lowest and highest return you would actually get.
- Minimum stake per selection (advanced): bookmakers and exchanges impose minimum bets (often GBP 1 or GBP 2 on exchanges). Any stake below the minimum is lifted to it, which raises the total and unbalances the returns slightly.
- Chance an uncovered runner wins (advanced): 100% minus the combined book, which is roughly the implied chance that none of your selections wins and the whole stake is lost.
- Stake table: each selection's odds, implied chance, stake, return and the profit if it wins, so you can place the bets directly from the screen.
