Advanced options
Same shape-tax as advent calendars: a medium egg is ~100g of chocolate moulded hollow and boxed large, priced at 2-3x the same chocolate as a bar. The known dodges: supermarket eggs hit half price the week before Easter (chocolate doesn't know the date), own-brand eggs beat brands in blind tests regularly, and the post-Easter Tuesday clearance is the connoisseur's actual buying window. Aunts and uncles: check with parents first: the average child receives 8+ eggs.
What The Easter Egg Calculator Works Out
- Egg count: children x eggs per child. Five children at three eggs each is fifteen eggs, roughly 1.5 kg of chocolate.
- Total bill: the egg count multiplied by the average egg price. Medium eggs shelf at GBP 2.50-4, so the fifteen-egg list is about GBP 45.
- The hollow truth: a medium egg holds about 100g of chocolate whose bar value is around GBP 1.20, so eggs run 2-3x bar price. The shape is the product, and children remain unanimous that it is worth it.
- Adults to buy for (advanced): grown-ups measure Easter in cocoa percentage rather than shell diameter, so they get their own headcount and price; GBP 5-8 buys a good bar or a small premium egg.
- Discount you expect (advanced): supermarket eggs cycle to half price in the final week before Easter with calendar reliability, and the post-Easter Tuesday clearance runs 75% off. Enter the percentage to see the whole spend after discount.
- Chocolate per egg and bar price per kg (advanced): override the 100g and GBP 12 per kg assumptions behind the bar comparison; large eggs carry 200-300g, and thick-shelled artisan eggs genuinely deliver the weight their price implies.
- Egg hunt extras (advanced): foil mini-eggs and hunt supplies. A GBP 2 bag entertains a garden of children for an hour, the season's best value per child-hour.
- Whole Easter spend and per child (advanced): children's eggs plus adults plus hunt extras in one figure, and the children's bill divided by the number of children. Aunts and uncles should check with parents first, since the average child receives eight or more eggs.
- Shape tax paid (advanced): the egg bill minus what the same chocolate costs as bars, the premium you are paying for the hollow mould and the box.
