Family plans break even at 2 people on almost every service: beyond that it's pure margin. The catches: same-household rules are now ENFORCED on several services (the password-sharing crackdown era: the student away at uni may need the add-a-member fee), music family plans need the same address, and one bill-payer fronts it: the split-the-bill rota is the WhatsApp group's other standing agenda item. The bigger win is usually the stack audit on the right.
What The Streaming Family Plan Calculator Works Out
- Individual route: the individual plan price x the number of people who would each need their own account. UK music and video individual tiers run GBP 10-13 a month.
- Family plan saving: the individual total minus the family plan price, x 12. Family tiers at 1.6-1.8 x the individual price cover four to six accounts, so they break even at two people and a four-person household saves GBP 300+ a year almost automatically once someone organises it.
- Per person per month: the family price divided by the people on it, which is what each member owes the bill-payer in the rota.
- Members at another address and add-a-member fee (advanced): same-household rules are now enforced on the big video services since the password-sharing crackdown; the student away at university usually needs an extra-member slot at GBP 4-6 a month. Music family plans verify addresses too. Enter the count and fee to see the plan's true cost.
- Annual payment discount (advanced): paying yearly trades commitment for 15-20% off where a service has earned always-on status.
- Adjusted saving and fair share (advanced): the saving after fees and discounts, and the per-person share including the extra-address fees, so the rota is fair to the person fronting it. The admin owner otherwise accumulates a quiet creditor position.
- Whole stack per year (advanced): this plan plus your other subscriptions (count x average price) x 12. The average subscribing household runs four to seven services, and music plus three video tiers plus cloud storage plus app drift commonly clears GBP 80-100 a month, a four-figure annual line assembled from reasonable sevens and elevens.
- Rotation saving (advanced): what you keep by subscribing to the non-essential services only for the months you actually watch them. Keep one or two anchors always on and cycle the rest; catalogues are mostly still there on return, and UK rules now require cancelling to be as easy as signing up.
