Enter odds as fractions (5/2), decimals (3.5) or evens. Mark each selection won, placed, lost or void (non-runner). Estimates only; bookmaker rules such as Rule 4 deductions and dead heats can change actual returns.
What The Bet Calculator Works Out
- Total stake: the stake you enter, doubled for an each way bet because the win part and the place part are two separate bets of equal size. A GBP 10 each way fourfold costs GBP 20.
- Total return: your stake multiplied through the decimal odds of every winning leg (a 2/1 winner multiplies by 3.0). A void selection or non-runner counts as odds of 1.0, so it neither adds to nor removes from the return. Any lost leg zeroes the win part. Odds can be typed as fractions (5/2), decimals (3.5) or "evens".
- Profit: total return minus total stake. For an each way bet the place part pays at a fraction of the odds, usually 1/4 for small fields and 1/5 for big handicaps, so a placed 5/2 shot at 1/5 pays place odds of 1/2.
- Stake entered is (advanced): switch to "total outlay" if you want GBP 10 to be the whole cost of an each way bet, in which case GBP 5 goes on the win and GBP 5 on the place.
- Rule 4 deduction (advanced): when a horse is withdrawn after the market is formed, bookmakers deduct a set amount from winnings on that race, from 5p in the pound for a 14/1 withdrawal up to 90p for a 1/9 favourite. Enter the deduction and the selection number it applies to; the calculator trims that leg's winnings (not the stake) before multiplying through.
- Acca bonus (advanced): many bookmakers add 5% to 70% to the net winnings of winning accumulators, scaled by the number of legs. The bonus is applied to profit, not the stake.
- Exchange commission (advanced): betting exchanges charge 2% to 5% of net winnings on a market instead of building a margin into the odds. Enter 0 for a normal bookmaker.
- Implied chance of every leg winning (advanced): the product of 1 divided by each leg's decimal odds. Four 2/1 shots imply a 1.2% chance, which is why accumulators pay so handsomely and land so rarely; the bookmaker's margin on every leg compounds too.
- Return if every leg had won (advanced): the full payout the bet was chasing, regardless of how you marked the results, so you can see what a near miss cost.
- Leg-by-leg table (advanced): shows each selection's decimal odds (adjusted for Rule 4 where applied) and the running combined odds after each leg, so you can see how the multiplication builds.
